WVU Medicine, also known as the West Virginia University Health System, is a nonprofit healthcare enterprise and the largest private employer in West Virginia. Established in 1996, the system unifies academic medicine, clinical care, and community health initiatives through a network of 25 hospitals and several specialized institutes, including the WVU Cancer Institute and the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. It provides a full continuum of care ranging from primary services to advanced quaternary procedures like robotic cardiac surgery and heart transplants across West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. As the clinical and academic partner of West Virginia University, it also serves as a primary training ground for health sciences students while managing integrated health insurance services through its affiliate, Peak Health.
